When Nissan kicked off the new model year by launching the 2012 Altima and Sentra this summer, the automaker did more than just enhance two of the most popular cars in the country. It also launched a new program to enhance how people shop for those vehicles—and the entire Nissan lineup. Starting with the Altima and Sentra, Nissan's "On Vehicle Graphics" initiative will leverage one of today's hottest information technologies by including QR codes on the window stickers of all 2012 Nissan products, including Nissan commercial vehicles, trucks, and crossovers.
QR—or "quick response"—codes embed information and links into small black-and-white graphics that can be read by a growing number of web-enabled iPhone, Android and Blackberry devices. As implemented by Nissan, the program provides customers with a comprehensive, complimentary interactive shopping experience and access to:
- Specific vehicle information, including info about key features and available accessories
- Video-based product overviews
- Image gallery
- Incentive offers
- Dealer inventory
- Dealer-location support
- Functionality that allows customers to request dealer quotes or to join Nissan mailing lists
"Nissan's new QR code program puts important decision-making information at shoppers' fingertips while on dealership lots, helping sales personnel make a more effective presentation, as well as providing customers with a 'silent salesperson' if they are shopping the lot after hours," said Jon Brancheau, vice president, Marketing, Nissan North America, Inc. "It's a true mass-market effort across all products and all Nissan dealerships nationwide—part of our pledge to bring innovation to every aspect of the vehicle design, buying and ownership experience."
