Nissan Develops EV Quick Charger

Nissan Quick Charger imageNissan has just revealed its own quick charger for electric vehicles. The automaker's proprietary technology is slated to go on sale in November at Nissan parts companies throughout Japan.

The newly-developed quick charging unit retains the performance of Nissan's previous charging unit. However, the latest unit is a fraction of its predecessor's size; it takes up less space and enables easier installation.

Nissan expects to sell about 5,000 of these new quick chargers by 2015 as Japan continues to develop its electric vehicle infrastructure. Nissan is also proactively seeking partner companies for sales as part of its efforts to assure customers of a comfortable and convenient electric vehicle driving experience.

Preparations are also underway to bring this new quick charger in the U.S. and European markets. Nissan says the charging unit is very safe, as it can be used even in rainy weather, and offers a range of innovative features, such as monitoring against a potential short circuit when the charging unit is interfacing with the EV.
