Nissan Promotes Recovery At The Expense Of Fellow Japanese Brands

Nissan ad featuring Honda dealer

Some Japanese automakers, including Honda and Toyota, haven't quite fully recovered yet from the devastating quake and tsunami that struck Japan back in March. But Nissan has already reached full production, and just launched a series of ads to promote its healthy inventory.

The new ads specifically show how Nissan dealers in the U.S. are loaded with inventory, while showing that its competitors’ supplies of vehicles are still lagging behind.

Japanese auto supply image“I’m sitting here with 160,000 vehicles in dealer inventory — a 54-day supply,” said Nissan USA’s vice-president for sales and marketing, Al Castignetti. “Last year at this time, I had a 46-day supply.

Castignetti recently told Automotive News that he was frustrated with the perception in the market place that all Japanese brands are low on supply of vehicles. He points out that Nissan doesn't fall in that category.

“Honda and Toyota are talking about coming back. We don’t have to wait till October or November. We’re back now.”
