The first generation Nissan Micra/March was launched in the early 1980s, and it quickly became known for its affordability. Over the years, it has added a host of new technologies to make it more fun and more efficient, but it has always maintained its ultra low price tag. The global popularity of this model has also recently helped it achieve more than six million sales worldwide.
Yosuke Iwasa, Nissan’s global chief marketing manager for the Micra/March program, said “The Micra/March’s drivability, fantastic reliability and superb handling have been well received, striking a chord with customers in over 70 countries around the world.”
Released just last year, the latest Micra is brimming with new technology, including features like an idle-stop system and Nissan's Xtronic continuously variable transmission. These features help the Micra stand as one of the most fuel-efficient non-hybrids available. It even received the “Best Environmental Car of the Year” award in 2010 for its excellent fuel economy.
“Nissan has long been striving to deliver great value to our customers in markets around the world," said Iwasa. “Compact cars are more important than ever in moving the world toward a society with lower carbon emissions. Under our Zero Emissions and PURE DRIVE strategies, we are striving to quickly offer the Nissan Micra/March to customers in 160 countries around the world.”
