The Nissan Leaf NISMO RC is a purpose-built prototype based on the world’s first affordable mass market electric vehicle. Powering the RC is zero emission advanced lithium-ion battery, similar to the same powertrain found within the standard Leaf sedan.
Already a world leader in zero emission production vehicles, Nissan is now setting its sights on motorsports. It's unlikely that Leaf NISMO RC will enter any sanctioned races, but the vehicle does show the potential for EV technology in racing.
"Combining the talents of NISMO, Nissan's world renowned motorsports group, and engineers behind some of the company's Super GT and FIA GT1 race teams, the Nissan LEAF NISMO RC will serve as a rolling laboratory for the accelerated development of EV and aerodynamic systems, as well as a platform for the development of new green motorsports series," said Carlos Tavares, chairman, Nissan Americas.
For a closer look at this unique electric race vehicle, see the video posted below. Although it features a carbon fiber body, there’s still a striking resemblance to the standard Leaf.
