Nissan Remains Committed To GT1 World Championship

Nissan continues to build up its international motorsports initiatives. In addition to its recent efforts in the International Le Mans Cup series, Nissan is also off to a strong start in the 2011 GT1 World Championship. The next race in that series is in Zolder, Belgium, and drivers of the the Nissan GT-R in this year’s series hoping to do even better than the last race in Abu Dhabi.

Recently in Abu Dhabi, the No.22 JR Motorsports Nissan GT-R captured second place, while the No. 21 Sumo Power GT car, also finished amongst the top-ten points scoring positions, in ninth.

In Zolder, the GT-Rs will face a new challenge that’s very different from their last outing. The track is 2.492 miles and is almost a mile shorter than its UAE-based counterpart. There are also fewer turns. Luckily for the drivers, the heat of Zolder is expected to be much more bearable than the 30+°C temperatures they had to endure in Abu Dhabi, with monthly temperatures for this time of year averaging around 14°C.

"Zolder is a track that I really like and which I have plenty of experience and happy memories of – I won there behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 a couple of years ago to secure the FIA GT2 Championship. I really can’t wait to get out there and do my thing this weekend, and a first place is definitely the aim!"

See how the Nissan drivers perform on the track in Zolder on April 10th.
