Nissan is going racing this weekend at the famed Mobil One 12 Hours of Sebring. The automaker has teamed up with French-based Signature Group racing team to bring a prototype entry to the endurance race.

Under the partnership, Nissan's Performance and Motorsports division, NISMO, will provide potent 3.4-liter racing versions of the Japanese auto manufacturer's VK series of V-8 engines. These engines share the same architecture with engines found under the hoods of the Nissan Titan, Armada and Pathfinder.

Although Nissan hasn't been at the forefront of motorsports in recent years, the automaker has had an illustrious racing career in the U.S. Nissan captured four overall wins at the 12 Hours of Sebring (1989, 1990, 1991 and 1994) as well as a pair of overall victories at the Rolex 24 at Daytona (1992 and 1994). Nissan also won two manufacturer's championships and three driver's championships in IMSA GTP from 1988 to 1990.

“We are delighted to team up with such an innovative car manufacturer,” said Philippe Sinault, the CEO of Signature Group. “Nissan’s engine expertise will be crucial to the overall performance of the car, and we are sure this partnership will be highly successful.”
